I understand wanting a nice healthy glow after a vacation in Orlando, Florida. I mean people expect it! But I must warn you that if your skin matches that of a white sheet you might want to consider easing your way in. Start by using a tanning lotion with sun block in it, at least SPF 15. If you’re going to lay out do so for about 20-30 minutes then flip to toast side two. Then either get out of the sun or slather on the highest SPF you can find.

If you plan on hanging out at the pool all day, or even for just a few hours, you have to reapply after swimming or sweating. I would recommend once an hour if you’re directly in the sun. If you feel yourself burning (that part of your body starts to literary get HOT) definitely cover up or reapply because that is the warning sign you’re about to feel the burn in the morning.

If you’re planning on hanging out in the parks all day make sure you bring your sun screen along. You will need it! Most of the shows and rides at Sea World Orlando, Disney World and Universal Studios are outside. Plus some of the rides are water rides so your sun screen will wash off.

Plus most of the other adventures you’ll have while you’re in Orlando, Florida will also be primarily outside. And even though it looks cloudy outside you still need to wear sun protection. Ha ling peak is located in western Alberta about an hour and half from Calgary in a small town called Canmore. The hike in total will take about 3 hours up and roughly 2 hours down. Luckily the sun does not set till well after 9pm during the milder months so starting this hike in the late afternoon is a definite possibility. As mentioned the hike is quite challenging that is very steep for the most part of the hike. Make sure to bring an ample supply of water and some snacks because it is very exhausting.

The Ha Ling peak hike has a lot of different terrain that will be encountered while ascending its peak. Because of this it is recommended that you wear layers and are prepared for rapid weather changes. The hike begins well below the tree line and you are surrounded by lush vegetation. The trail itself is hard and firm dirt with a lot of tree roots. Be careful of your footing and not to trip of the tree roots, many ankle injuries have been reported on this hike. This terrain will last for about half of the ascent of the ha ling peak hike and can be very challenging with many steep sections.

After trekking through the more bushy areas you will start to notice a mix of rock and trees. Trees are not as close together any more and are not as big. You can definitely tell the change in that the elevation has on the terrain and forest. Once you enter this area you will the trail becomes a lot more narrower and it begins to diminish into no trail at all. Be extremely careful for loose rock as it can cause you to be seriously injured. Also be aware of any falling rock that may have been dislodged by people hiking ahead of you. Ha ling peak and well any peak for that matter has a significant amount of loose rock that at any point could cause a rock slide. If you find yourself in this situation find a place to hide behind a tree of larger rock.

The final ascent is above the tree line and is bare faced rock with a significant amount of loose rock. There is no trail to the top and choosing your own line is your best bet. Again I cannot stress how important it is for you to be aware and sure footed because of the nature of the terrain. Also it can be very windy at the top and if you stand to close to the edge it could blow you right off. This has happened in the past so do not take this warning with a grain of salt.

Once you have made to the top the ha ling peak hike the views are absolutely amazing on side you looking down into the large valley on side and on the other endless peaks. You will notice a large temperature change from the bottom but it is well worth the exquisite views. Making it to the top is very rewarding and you really do feel like you are on top of the world. Upon your descent it very important to not let the loose rock have you slide down the rock face. The hardest part of the descent is the first couple hundred feet after that it is smooth sailing back to the base. Overall the ha ling peak hike in Canmore Alberta is a must ascent for avid hikers and I hope you get a chance to check it out.

Clapham Common is perhaps the least well known of these areas but it is in fact one of the most visited areas in south London. With 220 acres of open parkland for people to make use of, the Common is the perfect hangout on a sunny day.

The park centres on a bandstand. More than 120 years old, the bandstand was built in 1890 and is the oldest and largest of its kind in London. As it is, my backpack is not particularly large in the great scheme of things. It is a MacPac model that carries around 55 litres. Hence it is not like I’m carrying everything but the kitchen sink on my back! In fact when I bought it several years ago, I was caught between the ideas that I don’t like to be weighed down by more luggage, but that I still prefer to carry a few semi-luxuries. It seemed to fit somewhere in between.

As I tend to carry only the shoes that I’m wearing, my wash-bag, a camera, a book and my clothes, it seems that the main way that I could cut down my luggage would be to reduce the amount of clothing that I take. This is probably the only thing that I’m not ultra-frugal with when I travel. The reason being that I simply feel better about myself when I feel clean and hygienic! I certainly don’t take luxurious clothing, but I do take about 8 or 9 t-shirts and changes of underwear. Now to many people, that may still seem on the small side, but there is a section of people who prefer the idea of just a couple of changes of clothes. The idea is that you wear one pair, have one pair clean and probably one dirty. The problem to me is that, assuming that I want to stay clean, having such a small amount of clothing actually puts more stress onto the travel experience through constantly having to clean it and finding a facility to do so! For me, that inconvenience far outweighs the relative convenience of travelling exceedingly lightly

Another way to reduce the load would be to not take my digital SLR camera and extra lens, but if I’m seeing the world, and I already have the camera in my possession, then it would be a shame to not take it! If I didn’t already own the camera, I might think differently.

Returning to the clothing theme, the climate of the destination has a big bearing on how and what type of clothing is carried. For example, a location with a variable temperature and unpredictable rainfall pattern usually causes me to take a waterproof jacket and fleece. These can be quite bulky items that I can avoid taking when going to a consistently warm country. In such a location, even daytime rainfall is fairly irrelevant as the sun soon dries any wet items of clothing!

In summary, it seems that the main way for me to reduce my travel luggage would simply to be to travel more to hotter countries that require less bulky and specialist clothing! Otherwise, considering that I don’t intend to ditch the camera just yet, it appears that I’m not going to be converting to a 35 litre small backpack anytime soon!
