Going for a Dive in Bali – Water Fun Beyond Surfing
The intense surf in Bali drives waves of tourists into the area from May until October. Surfing is definitely a huge tourist attraction, but there are some other fun and exciting ways to get into the crystal clear water and explore.
Snorkeling in Bali
Grab a park ranger and head tout to Menjangan Island if you want to try out snorkeling. The island is located in northwest Bali in the Marine National Park and you cannot again access without escort from a park ranger. Once there, you can slip into the water and explore either live coral or throngs of amazing fish.
There are two different areas with one being best for live coral and the other being best for snorkeling with fish. Let the ranger know what you are most interested in or ask to visit both areas to see it all.
If you are in the eastern side of Bali check out White Sand Beach, also known as Pasir Putih for snorkeling adventures.
Diving in Bali
If you like to dive or just want to try it out, there are some amazing shipwrecks in Bali that are best seen by divers. You can go to Tulamben to see the Liberty wreck in northeastern Bali or head out east to Candi Dasa and Padang Bai if you aren’t into shipwrecks..
In Candi Dasa you can see Sharkpoint in Mimpang and explore a cave in Biaha. Tekekong is another area out east that is great for diving.
If you are an advanced diver you may want to go out east to Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. These two islands sit side-by-side and have areas of very strong currents where professional divers and snorkelers can find a challenge. This is not somewhere to venture if you don’t have considerable experience diving.
Sunsets on the Beach
What many people don’t know is that there are beaches in Bali with black sand from volcanoes and then other beaches with white sand. Some areas of Bali are known for spectacular sunsets while others are most well known for amazing waves and daredevil locals trying to catch them on boards.
One of the best ways to enjoy the ocean in Bali is to simply sit in the sand and watch these amazing sites. Head to Kuta to see some of the most noteworthy sunsets and sink your toes into the black sand in Ahmed. Then head to White Sand Beach to compare the sand and the sunsets.
Kite Surfing
Just when you thought you had heard of every Bali adventure possible, you come across something known as kite surfing. You will have to venture to the beaches out east. Many of the areas that offer snorkeling and diving will also offer kite surfing opportunities. If you have access to concierge you may ask where the best places may be in the area of Bali you choose to visit.
There is so much to do in Bali beyond surfing! If you plan to visit a variety of beaches you will come across many different opportunities to get out in the waves and sink your toes into the sand. You may even find new types of sand that you never knew existed!
