Why Do We Dream About Owning Certain Cars?
Aren’t they all the same?
In a distant galaxy far far away, or maybe in another dimension, there is a world where everyone has the same car. The same colour, the same engine size, the same tyres and the same interior. This utopian society would have cheap replacement parts, would have no problem buying or selling their car and would not feel any pangs of jealousy when someone drove past.
In contrast, our world has vastly different cars of all shapes and sizes that we spend half our lives trying to improve upon. We stare longingly as Aston Martin DB9s and Ferrari F60s roll past us forgetting that our car is basically the same thing. Cars like these and many other luxury, sports and super cars are the type of thing people dream about. But why?
Status
The main reason people normally want this sort of car, which has a badge people drool over, is for the prestige of owning such a vehicle. It is like driving round with your healthy bank statement stuck to your forehead, showing that you are financially successful. It is to some a way of showing off to friends that they have lots of spare cash and also to show that they are powerful in some way.
Power and Performance
Sometimes status is not something that people look for from their car. Occasionally it is the power and performance capabilities of the car they covet. Ferraris and Lamborghinis are basically the finest cars ever made and if you are a fan of nice cars and really enjoy driving something that is the best, then you really have no choice but to fork out for, or continue dreaming about owning one of these amazing vehicles.
Practicalities
Often, when people have a lot of disposable income or have access to a lot of credit, when they are looking for a new car that can maybe go off road and carry lots of people, yet they still want an element of luxury to their vehicle, they may have this perfectly innocent reason for buying a Range Rover or similar luxury off roader. The performance car parts in this vehicle may not be something the driver is interested in but if they come with a car they can afford then they aren’t going to say now. They may not have dreamt of this type of car but maybe it just happens to meet their needs and budget (or lack of budget as the case may be).
