The Magnificent Island of Majorca
The world is a great big vacation place and touring will open your eyes to the beauty of creation. If you ever decide to see the beauty of the world, there is no better place for that first stop than Majorca.
This island in Spain, which is nestled in the Mediterranean Sea, started becoming a popular tourist destination in 1952. Since then holidays to Majorca have become a part of every travelers check list.
Who would not love to go to Majorca when it is blessed with a superb Mediterranean climate? The island is littered with fantastic coastal resorts that appeal even to the rich and famous. In fact many celebrities own private holiday homes there. The island has also managed to mix old architecture with new entertainment facilities in a charming and unobtrusive way.

Beaches
Majorca has some of the best beaches in the world and many go to this island just for its beaches. One such beache is Calla Deia near Soller. It is a gorgeous beach surrounded by rocky cliffs that has pristine blue waters and is a perfect getaway. It is perfect for swimming and snorkeling and if you are feeling adventurous you can take one of the paths that lead to the San Pedrisa watchtower for a more magnificent view of the sea.
Historical Sites
Majorca is an island steeped with history and part of this history is the Palma-Bellver Castle. The castle which is located west of Palma’s city centers was built in 1229 as a royal palace by King Jaume I. King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain has lived in this castle as well as Queen Elizabeth II of England. This historical building is the home of the Desuig collection of classical sculptures.
Another great historical place to visit is the town of Alcudia. There in an hour or two walk which is like walking in an old Roman town. You can still see remains of Roman houses and an amphitheater. The city walls built by the Spaniards after conquering it in the 14th century were magnificently restored.
Majorca still has many places of interest that you can discover for yourself if ever you decide to take a holiday in this charming island.
