Pioneer AVIC-F900BT In-Dash Navigation Audio/Video Receiver With DVD Playback Review
In this article, I am going to review the Pioneer Avic F900BT, which will the outline the main features and benefits of this in dash navigation system. I hope this will help you make a more informed decision when deciding which Pioneer Avic you would like to purchase.
The Pioneer Avic F900BT is a great navigation system, and comes with many of the features you would expect based on older models, but also includes a few new ones, such as pre loaded mapping stored on the internal memory, and voice recognition controls, which I will explain later below.
Summary
Screen: The screen is a large 7 inch touch screen, which is larger than most other Pioneer Avic in dash navigation systems. This allows for easier use of menu options, and viewing your map. The menus and intuitive icons have been simplified, allowing you to quickly and efficiently start using the system. Quickly enter destinations, browse music libraries, or adjust settings can be easily managed using the touch screen. Another improvement is the picture quality, at 800×480 pixels, helps with image quality and sharpness. The splash/startup screen can be customized with a jpg by SD card or usb drive. The button lighting can also be adjusted to match your car interior. The responsiveness is quick after startup.
Maps: It comes with up to 12 million points of interest, so you will always be able to find what you are looking for. The system also has clear pronunciation turn by turn directions, which means you will never miss your turn again. You can create a trip/route with stops/waypoints in it and manage them. You can preplan restroom and food breaks or site-see. There is a screen for progress and itinerary info. This screen can show you your progress along the trip whether its miles left or hours left.
Voice recognition: The voice recognition on the Pioneer Avic F900BT is really cool, and allows you to control iPod playback and making calls hands-free via connected Bluetooth-enabled cell phones (some phones work better than other though). This allows you to make and receive calls using voice activated control only. This has a great benefit of making driving safer as you don’t need to worry about finding your phone, pressing buttons etc to make or receive calls. You can browse your iPod menus on screen, by artist, song title, or by the first letter of either song/artist.
You can also receive updated traffic, weather, gas prices and local event information via an optional MSN Direct tuner.
This system has also got other great improvements such as more precise audio tuning, and better sound. You can also add a camera to the back of your vehicle, and the system automatically displays images shot from a connected camera as the vehicle shifts into reverse, which is really cool.
In summary, this is another great system from Pioneer, and has many improvements on its predecessors. You can currently pick one up at Amazon for about $500, which has a number of other customer reviews, which should help in making your decision.
