There are many choices for anyone who wants to learn internet marketing. You can attend seminars to watch presentations from already successful marketers. You can look online for the latest innovation (or system) designed to explode your money-making capabilities. Or you can follow an internet marketing training program you can download. Here’s why I think the training program option is best.

Through experience, I have found that the systems or seminar approach can be useful – but only after you have already grasped the end to end concept of what internet marketing is all about.

Why is this so? Well, a particular system will typically teach you one aspect of internet marketing. That’s fine, but if you haven’t already built a solid understanding of what internet marketing is, you may find that much of the theory goes over your head, and that the system will only show you so much. You then end up having to refer to (or buy) some other material anyway to fill in the information gaps you are missing. It’s like trying to play Beethoven’s 5th on the piano, without first having had any tuition.

Attending seminars to learn internet marketing can be helpful. It will give you access to people who have experience in the business, and a lot of other attendees who are hoping to make a success of it too. However, the whole experience can be somewhat overwhelming.

A typical seminar can last 3 or 4 days, and over that time you will be exposed to many different internet marketing concepts. In the exciting, charged atmosphere, you will be exposed to pressure sales techniques to make you purchase the latest “bells and whistles” systems. Then, when you return to the peace and quiet of your own home, you may find you have not invested wisely, panic buying tools and techniques which you may never use.

So is there a place for buying systems or attending seminars? Of course there is. But, if you are going to become a success, you need to initially build a solid foundation of basic understanding. Then when you buy a system, you will invest wisely in something that you know will help you. Or, when you attend a seminar, you can find a product that fits in with your business model, instead of panic buying something that looked good on the day, but in reality was not what you needed.

In summary, look for a solid training program that will carefully teach you various aspects of internet marketing. Over time, you may find that you naturally gravitate to one particular type of marketing – such as affiliate marketing – and become a specialist in that in that. But it is important to take the time to learn internet marketing fundamentals before moving on to more complicated and challenging projects.
