Ebook Reader Technology Jams
When I first saw an ebook reader I remembered the first electronic gadget that caught my attention in 1958 in the 5th grade. It was the pocket sized transistor radio with an earplug. Wow! I was ecstatic.
Had someone told me in 1958 that some day I would be able to hold 3500 books in the palm of my hand in a little plastic case, I would have thought of them as nuts. But the ebook reader can do just that and more!
The ebook reader is one of the hottest electronic gadgets in this period of time. The avid reader of books now has a device that will hold all of the books he would ever read–and if he ever ran out of books he could order another set online.
The ebook reader is smaller than a legal notepad, weighs-in in the ounce category and can be as thin as 1/3 of an inch. Some batteries can last up to a month with the wireless feature off and ten days with it constantly on. The reader batteries can even be charged from your computer.
To quickly get you reading groove on, books can be downloaded in as little as 60 seconds and at a cost much lower than paper page books.
Newspaper and magazine subscriptions can be purchased for the ebook reader and are downloaded prior to hitting the newsstands. Articles can be clipped and saved to read later and one can flip between articles and bookmark.
Now, if you will, imagine students no longer carrying a backpack of 200, 600, 1100 page books and reports across campus for classes. All that’s needed now is a laptop computer and his ebook reader. Parents and students alike are thrilled at the great reduction in the cost of books. Being able to flip between articles or pages makes it easier and faster to read or browse. Special deals can be had for students.
These are only some of the features of the ebook readers. Ebook readers are being developed now for the blind. What’s next? With the way technology has stepped up in recent years, you may be able to print from your reader or custom fit it to other personal needs.
