Tuscany
Italy’s most popular and best known region is full of tourist magnets – like Florence and Pisa – and hidden treasures including lots of big and little places to explore. Tuscany is incredibly diverse and a dream to experience year round. Tuscany is known for its beautiful landscapes, rich artistic legacy and vast influence on high culture.
Tuscany is regarded as the true birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and has been home to some of the most influential people in the history of arts and science, such as Petrarch, Dante, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Amerigo Vespucci and Puccini.
The Tuscany area is approx. 23, 000 square km large and has barely 3.6 million inhabitants. The largest city is Florence, which is located in the northern part of the region. Other major cities are Pisa, Siena, Cortona, Lucca and Grosseto.
Tuscany is characterized by its picturesque landscape of pines, cypresses, olive groves and vineyards.
In the North-west, towards the Apennines mountain range lies The Garfagnana region. So far, outside the worst deprived area for tourist and it offers a general experiences, that people whom know Tuscany often characterize as the best of the real Tuscany. The examples of the genuine and untouched are many. Including the cultural Barga with its many music festivals is a favorite destination.
Abetone, has a large and popular ski resort. The area has collected about 30 lifts, several of which are gondolas. The season extends roughly from mid-December to mid-March.
Vico Pancellorum
This place is clinging to the harmonic hill that leads to one of the higher mountains in the area and is a typical Tuscan mountain village. Beautiful houses, small piazzas, narrow alleys and bountiful vineyards, in combination with warm Catholic Italians characteristics of the village image. Vico Pancellorum has besides two Catholic medieval churches with its distinctive clock tower.
