A skilled beekeeper knows the biology and study of bees and what to do with that sweet honey they work so hard at obtaining. Early on beekeeping was just a simple hobby… but later on, it became widely famous as it prepared for its involvement in many different industries

If you’re a beginner or perhaps considered an amateur beekeeper, you really need to increase your knowledge and learn the science of entomology. Also, as the beekeeper, you must know how to deal with the bees during different seasons; what to wear when harvesting honey, and what equipment to use in keeping and transferring your bees.

Remember, you’re maintaining and taking care of your bee colonies. These colonies living in their bee hives stay and survive depending on the queen bee. So if you are keeping bees, be sure the queen bee is not being disregarded. The queen bee needs utmost concern, for when there is no queen bee, the bee hive will eventually die.

Even though she may be the only existing female among the rest in the colony, she won’t be considered “the boss”. Known to be the one with reproductive organs that are fully developed, the queen bee lays eggs to produces bees to fill the other vacant roles in the bee hive.

Another important point in beekeeping is the division of the bee colonies.

The right time for harvesting honey is during the spring time, but this is also the period when honeybees divide into two groups from a single horde. The natural reproduction of honeybees is called swarming.

For many beekeepers, this phenomenon must be avoided considering that this is a loss to their production. Through purchasing of new bees in place of the old ones, this event can be avoided so that a new colony of bees shall be created. Modern science and technology also have concerns with beekeeping. But this guide to beekeeping only focuses on giving the three important guidelines of beekeeping – being a good beekeeper, giving utmost care for the queen of the bees, and the swarming phenomenon of honeybees.
