3 Things I Do Regularly to Make My Computer Faster
I regularly maintain the performance of my computer and in this article I will discuss 3 things that I do regularly in order to make my computer faster. Doing these 3 things will boost the speed of your computer but you should also perform other system optimisations.
The first thing I do to make my computer faster is that I moved the paging file to another disk. Paging file is a section on your hard drive that the operating system uses as if it’s a memory (RAM). Whenever you are running low on memory space, data from the memory will be swapped with the paging file/virtual memory. But because the hard drive is not as fast or efficient as the memory the swapping of file slows down the computer. It is a good idea to move this paging file to another disk with a faster operation. Also by moving the paging file to another disk the read/write operation on the main disk will not be disturbed by having to also deal with the paging file requests.
The second thing that I do regularly to make my computer faster is that I adjust my system to be optimised for best performance. You have 2 options in the advanced system settings, you can either adjust for better performance or for better appearance. I chose to adjust my system for better performance and my computer speed improves but my user interface became less pleasing to the eye because all the colourful graphic animations will be turned off
Lastly I disabled the Windows Vista/7 Aero effect which consumes memory and uses lots of animations that slow things down. So turn off the Aero and your operating system will feel faster and smoother.
