Mysterious Places – Soil Formation in Ohio
Tombs and burial mounds are spread all across some sides of Great Britain and it is believed that many individual rock structures were once buried and covered with soil. As impressive and enigmatic are the ground shapes located in the central and western region of the United States. These were raised by Native Americans in period of almost 2000 years. In 1780, Ohio Valley colonizers of the Ohio Valley were amazed to discover a series of huge mounds which were shaped like animals. The most spectacular of all is shaped like a snake and it has a length of over 400 meters.
It can be found near Peebles, Ohio. They also discovered a huge pile of soil which is similar to the basis of the Egyptian pyramid, on the banks of the Mississippi River, near East St. Louis, Illinois. It seemed impossible for the Native Americans living in that region to have raised such mounds.
This leads to all sorts of new theories: these mounds could have been evidence of a civilization that disappeared – survivors of the Great Flood or lost tribes from Israel – or of an old species of giants. In 1830, merchant William Pidgeon embarked on a ship sailing the waters west of the Great Lakes with the hope of gathering more information. What he discovered is simply amazing: mounds that were shaped like lizards, hawks, bears, panthers and even turtles. At a trading point located on the Mississippi, he met an old man (De-coo-dah) that explained the following: “The Earth’s surface is the book of Indians and those tombs are just some of their letters. When the people that worshiped reptiles were decimated in wars and forced to accept that the only objects worth worshiping were the Sun, the Moon and other celestial bodies, they secretly buried their goods in symbolic mounds which represented celestial bodies.”
