Windows Video Editing Software – Movie Maker
Too many startup programs in XP or any other operating system can slow down your computer’s performance. A long startup (longer than 1 minute), can usually be attributed to a crowded ini. Many users have all sorts of programs that open when the computer first boots. Common ones include iTunes, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, Adobe Reader among all the other items that are useful but not necessary for startup. These programs will still run even if they are disabled. It’s important to uncheck them in the msconfig utility in order to prevent them from initializing when you turn on your PC.
There’s an easy way to disable items from starting up. Startup programs in XP can be turned off by clicking on start, then run, then type msconfig. Once you hit ok you will see a utility called the Microsoft System Configuration Utility. Click on the startup tab. This is the portal your system uses to identify with applications should start when you turn on your computer. The more items you have checked here, the slower your system will be. Be sure to check off items such as the ones mentioned above.
Be careful what you disable. You’ll want to make sure you don’t check any items that are necessary for your computer to run. For example, you may notice a wireless utility or a Microsoft Corporation service. These services are essential for your computer to run normally. Avoid disabling these from startup or you might be wondering why a particular component is not functioning on your computer. You’ll also want to be wary of items that may look suspicious like CTHelper, CoolWebSearch or other spyware items. You’ll definitely want to disable those if you can. Use good judgement and you should be fine. Otherwise, consider using a computer optimization utility to automate the disabling of these programs. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
