To set up it on your computer follow these steps:

Step 1

To make it work properly you have to set it up so that it can recognise your voice, tone and accent. Begin by connecting a microphone with headset to your computer. This can be easily identified as it has a microphone above the plug hole. When you have the microphone inserted click Start, Control Panel, Ease of Access, Start Recognition

At this point the “Set Up Speech Recognition” message will appear then click next.

Step 3

In the dialog box you will see 3 options asking which type of microphone headset you are using. Click the one that you are using and press next. You can then optimise your microphone if you wish.

Step 4

In the Set Up Speed Recognition dialog box you will be given a sentence of text that you will need to read out a loud. If successful you will then see the message “Microphone Is Set Up”. If the recording was not successful repeat until you do. Ensure to speak with a clear voice.

Step 5

Press next to continue. In the dialog box you will have the option to either enable the document or view it. The document option enables the application to check your documents to help it recognise your voice. Press next once you have decided.

Step 6

In the next box you have the option to either see or print the speech recognition commands. Click next.

Step 7

In this dialog box that appears you have the choice of either disabling the “Run Speech Recognition at Start Up” check button or else you can just leave it at the default setting. Once you have made your choice click next again.

Step 8

The following and final box to appear will advise you that you can now control you PC with your voice. To help you with practicing the different commands there is a tutorial that you can proceed through to practice your skills. If you do not want the tutorial you can just cancel.

Step 9

When you use speech recognition a little control panel will appear. Activate the voice command “Start Listening”. From this point on you can begin to use your voice to command your computer.
