The nuvi 2×5 series is Garmin’s entry level series. That’s not to say the 2×5’s don’t have a lot of features. Many of them do. As a matter of fact there are some really advanced GPS devices in the nuvi 2×5 series. To better help you understand what Garmin to buy, let’s take a quick overview of these devices.
Let’s start with the Garmin nuvi 205. Although it doesn’t have a lot of features compared with today’s higher end models, the 205 does have millions of pre-programmed points of interest, maps of the lower 48 states, plus other features like photo viewer and mp3 player. It’s a good basic GPS system, which currently sells for less than 490.
As you increase the price, you can get Blueooth, for hands free calling while you drive, text to speech (the ability to actually say the names of the streets you’re to turn on), and real time FM traffic. You can get the traffic with a subscription or even with some models, it comes prepacked with the price. The Garmin nuvi 265 is an example of a nuvi that has what Garmin calls “lifetime” traffic. That is you get a lifetime subscription to that service at no extra cost to you.
Although, in general, the nuvi 2×5’s are not as flashy as some of the newer models, like Garmin’s new, uber-cool 3700 series, there is one very cool, new model in the 2×5 series. That’s the Garmin nuvi 295w wi-fi GPS navigator.
The nuvi 295w is totally cool. Looking more like a smart phone than a GPS receiver, the 295w has loads of new technological features that you’ll love. For instance, it has a horizontal view for use in the car, and a vertical view for hand held pedestrian use. The 295w represents Garmin’s foray into the realm of cell phones.
So, don’t think the nuvi 2×5 line is old hat. It’s anything but! The 2×5 line represents an excellent assortment of Garmin products. Certainly worth checking out before you make your next purchase.
