Livescribe 4GB Titanium Pulse Smartpen is a device that allows you to record text, drawings, and audio, but also lets you link your notes to whatever was said at the moment of the writing. As soon as you finish writing in your notebook, you can listen to the audio that was recorded at a particular moment just by tapping on any of your entries.

The Livescribe 4GB Titanium Pulse Smartpen uses an infrared camera, which is placed at the tip of the pen, and which camera “keeps an eye” on everything you write or draw; the pen has also a speaker and a built-in high-quality microphone, which records the audio.

The notes can be easily uploaded to a Mac or PC, and once there, they can be searched for particular words, just like you would in a normal text editor. Once the product is registered, you are given free 500MB space, which allows you to share your notes online, either privately or with the whole community. The Livescribe 4GB Titanium Pulse Smartpen has an audio jack and the kit comes with 3-D Recording Headset, USB charging cradle, starter dot paper book, and two spare cartridges.

Cons

Livescribe 4GB Titanium Pulse Smartpen isn’t cheap, but similar devices usually aren’t; it is also slightly bulkier than a normal pen and writing with it can be a bit odd. Even though the kit includes two black ink cartridges, the refills are small and the ink runs out quickly. Another drawback is that OCR software is not included, as is the case with other similar devices, and has to be purchased separately, even though it only costs $30.

This Smartpen is ideal for college students and professionals, who struggle to take notes during lectures, interviews, and meetings. With the ability to record more than 400 hours of audio and 64 000 pages of notes, this is one truly smart device!
