Getting a Good Night’s Sleep When Camping
Often people prefer to stay at home rather than go camping because of the poor sleep that they get each night. I have found that if you have the right equipment you can have a great sleep when camping, especially if you use it correctly. With the market for sleeping bags and mattresses really exploding there is no reason not to get a good deal. However, don’t get something that’s too cheap unless you know its good quality.
I have made that mistake many times, and had to replace the sleeping bag or mattress several times. As a general rule if you have to sleep on or in it, or it keeps you warm then don’t skimp on it regardless of the price. If you buy something that’s top quality and look after it then chances are you will still have it in 20 years time! I have found that air mattresses with a bit of foam in them are the most comfortable, but this isn’t always practical especially if you are hiking. If you have no limits in space or weight get a huge mattress with thick foam, and you will sleep like a baby. You can get some good blow up pillows today, but make sure it suits your bodies contour.
Sleeping bags are very important too as they will keep you warm. There is nothing worse than being cold, or being hot when you are trying to sleep. Get something that suits the temperatures you are going to be using it in and you will find that you will get a good night’s sleep every time. Going to bed with the sun and getting up with the sun will also help you sleep better, although it might take a bit of time to get used to at the start.
